Raising the minimum wage in Lexington: What the data show

The Working Families Campaign will be sponsoring a presentation on the impact of an increased minimum wage in Fayette County.  The speaker will be KCEP's economic analyst Jason Bailey.  Jason will address the topic “Raising the minimum wage in Lexington: What the data show.”  The event will be held at the Quaker Meetinghouse; 649 Price Avenue (off W Sixth  Street in Lexington).

Jason Bailey’s presentation comes at a time when increases in the minimum wage are a topic of discussion both nationally and in Kentucky.  During the 2014 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, a proposal to  gradually increase Kentucky’s minimum wage passed the Kentucky House, but failed in the Republican-dominated Senate.  A bill to increase the minimum wage in Jefferson County is currently being considered by Louisville’s Metro Council.  The Central Kentucky Council for Peace & Justice and several other organizations have formed the Working Families Campaign, which is currently organizing individuals and organizations to work for a meaningful increase in the minimum wage in Fayette County.
