Join us for an exciting day of action in Frankfort as we come together to push our legislators to do the right thing and pass the Stream Saver bill.
More than 1,400 miles of streams in Kentucky were buried or significantly damaged by coal mining valley fills between 1981 and 2005. These headwaters are the source of major rivers that provide drinking water for more than 1 million Kentuckians. Truly, we all live downstream.
Help us encourage the Kentucky legislature this session to pass House Bill 104, “the Stream-Saver” bill, during the 2009 “I Love Mountains” march and rally at the state capitol on Tuesday, February 17th.
Members of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) and others across the state that are working to end mountaintop removal will gather on “I Love Mountains” day at 11 a.m. at the riverfront near the capitol to march in unity to the state capitol (.6 mile).
We are asking that each person join us for this march to represent just one mile of stream that has been buried or damaged by mountaintop removal mining. With hundreds and hundreds of us walking together – each representing one mile -- our march will help demonstrate the scale of destruction that has been brought on by mountaintop removal mining.
The march will be followed by an energizing rally on the front steps of the capitol. The schedule for the day is listed below.
