Elections and Empathy: A Training on Listening with Love (Virtual)

KFTC works to register, engage, and mobilize voters who are often ignored or overlooked during election seasons, primarily young Kentuckians, low income folks, and people of color. Sometimes those we work to register to vote have distrust in the process, disappointment in our government, and have been directly impacted and harmed by policies enacted by elected officials. Sometimes even those of us volunteering can fall into despair and doubt. All of the things we feel are understandable AND this election can help us get closer to a democracy that is more fair and just for all of us.

In these next two weeks before the election, let's not just tell people to vote, but work to really listen, validate their experience, practice empathy, and connect around the future we want and how voting might help us get there. Instead of running the risk of shaming, guilting, or pressuring people to vote which is often ineffective, let's use the power of empathy and connection to create the democracy we want to see.

Join KFTC for an online training on engaging people by using the power of active listening, affirmation, validation, and connection to get out the vote on November 6th so that we not only win elections, but build longterm grassroots power. We will also talk about ways to ensure our electoral work is accessible to all people and ways we can all pitch in during the remaining weeks before election day. Join us.
