Scott County KFTC Update

Scott County KFTC Chapter member have had a few productive months, bringing many scores of people up to Frankfort for I Love Mountains Day, the Voting Rights Rally, Immigration Lobby Day, and other key events, while continuing to do solid organizing back home to build our chapter and move our issues forward.

The Georgetown curbside recycling campaign continues to be a major focus of the chapter work and we continue to work with the city council to find a path forward while pressuring them from the outside with grassroots fieldwork.

We also stay visible in the community on other issues, talking to the local Kiwanis club about Mountaintop Removal mining a few days ago, speaking about Voting Rights as part of a Georgetown College video series, and other outreach.

New Scott County Chapter member and former felon James Snyder wrote an op-ed in favor of voting rights that appeared in the Herald-Leader a few weeks ago in addition to having many powerful conversations with legislators in the last two months.

gIMG_4276The chapter has built a lot of connections recently with Georgetown College Sociology students, which has brought more young people into the chapter.

We have a chapter meeting coming up this Thursday April 5th at 7pm at the Scott County Public Library, tentatively hammering out our plans for the non-partisan work in the primary election, plus upcoming events like the Kite Fest and Earth Day at Georgetown College, as well as our local recycling work.
