Madison County holds great chapter annual meeting

Dr. Chris Green

This Monday, members of the Madison County chapter gathered in Berea College’s Appalachian Center for the KFTC chapter annual meeting. The Madison County members quickly got down to business by nominating officers for KFTC’s steering committee and executive committee and discussing upcoming opportunities for voter registration and education. After stopping to enjoy homemade pies supplied by Madison County’s own Megan Naseman, the chapter settled in to a presentation by the new director of Berea College’s Appalachian Center, Dr. Chris Green, who told the story of his education and activism around the Appalachian region.

Dr. Green noted KFTC as being a major factor in pushing him to pursue activism based on Appalachian issues. Speaking about the Kentucky Fair Tax Coalition’s campaign to outlaw the abusive broad form deed, Dr. Green said “I realized people can change the world when they work together” in reference to KFTC’s grassroots efforts. The Madison County chapter has long used Berea College’s Appalachian Center as a meeting place, so the chapter looks forward to renewing the productive relationship enjoyed with past directors.
