“There is power
in numbers."

When people network together and work together, they can accomplish more than just trying to do it by themselves. I’ve been a part of many KFTC actions. I’ve gone to Frankfort to lobby. I’ve been part of public hearings. One time we held a funeral for the state of Kentucky. It was being buried in waste. We preached the funeral in the rotunda and had a police escort. We wrote up a death certificate and placed it on the Governor’s desk. It really got people’s attention.

Another time I went out to New Mexico with the Citizens Coal Council. The Office of Surface Mining was refusing to write up violations for companies mining on Indian land. So a whole group of us went to the OSM’s office in downtown Denver. There were so many of us we couldn’t fit in just one elevator. The office was 37 stories up, too high to jump. So the head of the agency had to listen to what we had to say.

Your help is needed to take action for justice today.
Here are some ways you can take action:

Join KFTC or make a donation.

A donation of any size helps KFTC members lobby in Frankfort, gain access to valuable research and materials, take part in workshops and make their voices heard. By joining KFTC you are standing shoulder to shoulder with others and add to our collective strength.

Attend a KFTC event.

Click here to see an exciting calendar of events. You may find a KFTC chapter meeting near you or discover upcoming workshops or public hearings. As KFTC member Daniel Thompson used to say, “When you need numbers, I can be there.”

Attend an upcoming mountain witness tour.

KFTC hosts frequent mountain witness tours to give members a first hand understanding of the many problems with mountaintop removal mining. These events provide an opportunity to view the destruction and talk with community members who live near (or below) the mine site.

Host a KFTC houseparty

House parties are among the most effective ways to expand our circle of members. We will help you plan an engaging, brief program and work with you to produce the invitations. Please contact KFTC’s office at 606-878-2161 if you would like more information about hosting a KFTC house party.

Write a letter to the editor

The best letters to the editor are brief and make just one or two points. A set of tips for writing good letters to the editor can be found here.

Contact a KFTC office to learn more

We welcome you to stop by or contact our offices to discuss ways you can get involved. KFTC’s administrative office is located in London, Kentucky and may be reached at 606-878-2161. You may also wish to contact a KFTC field office near you.
