Kentuckians For The Commonwealth, Heine Brother’s Coffee,
and Carmichael’s Bookstore to host 2nd Annual Festival to benefit Kentucky Mountains

Louisville Loves Mountains Festival will be held May 21st
on Longest Ave at Bardstown Road from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

An impressive list of local artists and musicians are teaming up with Heine Brother’s Coffee and
Carmichael’s Bookstore and the social justice group Kentuckians For The Commonwealth for an
evening to celebrate Kentucky’s mountain beauty and heritage.

The second annual Louisville Loves Mountains Festival will be held Friday evening, May 21
from 4–10 p.m. A section of Longest Avenue at Bardstown Road – adjacent to Heine Brothers
and Carmichael’s stores – will be blocked off o create an outdoor space for the festivities.
The music lineup includes Daniel Martin Moore, the Potluck Ramblers, Nora Ben & Eli,
Appalatin, the River City Drum Corps, Thomas A Minor and the Picket Line, and Maiden Radio.
The featured artist will be Affrilachian Poet Makalani Bendele.

The festival celebrates the unique natural beauty and ecological importance of Kentucky’s
Appalachian mountains. The headwaters of three major rivers that feed into the Ohio River are in
eastern Kentucky, and its forests are among the most diverse hardwood forest in North America.
The region also is the source of coal that is burned locally to generate electricity, creating a major
source of Louisville air pollution. Some of that coal is mined using mountaintop removal, a
highly destructive form of mining that KFTC is working to end. Proceeds from the festival will support these efforts.

The festival is free and open to the public. There will be food, beer, activities, and music.
KFTC is a 28-year-old non-partisan, member-run social justice organization working to ensure
the voices of Kentuckians are heard and respected in our democracy. Call 589-3188 for more
