As a student leader, you are aware that there is an emphasis on diversity issues at UK. What are some issues related to diversity that you believe are apparent on campus, and what do you plan to do to create change?
-
What are your plans to help create an end to sexual violence and promote safety on campus?
-
In light of the recent budget issues in state government, what action should Student Government take to help maintain affordable higher education?
-
What action, if any, do you believe is appropriate for Student Government to take to increase voter education and participation both in on-campus elections, and general elections?
-
What are your plans with working side by side with landlords and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government on off campus student housing?
-
Leaders often face the struggle of understanding the people they represent. UK has a very diverse student body in terms or race, class, gender identity, culture, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, and ability status. What measures will you take to educate yourself on these issues? In what ways will you commit yourself to better understand and represent this diverse student body?
-
What are your thoughts on improving sustainability on campus? Considering current green issues such as recycling, renewable energy, and biking. What plans do you have to make UK a more green-friendly university?
-
What is your response to the recent research proposal to log sections of UK-owned Robinson Forest? Would you be willing to voice a student opinion different from your own to higher administrative positions at UK?

Use this space to address any additional ideas, plans, concerns, or platform ideas you have.
The idea of diversity being 3 dimensional is absent on our UK campus. Diversity is not just this black and white affair. Diversity is about coming together from all walks of life. It is developing the skills to recognize, accept and respect each other’s cultural and individual differences to that we can work together efficiently. It is about the willingness to acknowledge our Asian, Appalachian, African students and students of the Middle East. We need to acknowledge our Islamic, Jewish, Atheist, and agnostic student body. Diversity allows you to think in areas that you never thought your mind could reach to establish cohesiveness.
UK’s campus need to develop a REAL representation of all the student body in all organizations, especially those that are supposed to represent the student body. We need to push ourselves to be uncomfortable because that is what keeps us conscious of the people around us and pushes us to tap into our skills that allow us to adapt and overcome.
AWARENESS! I plan to work with the VIP center and offer my support to the most vital component to end sexual violence which is awareness. I would like to develop a dialogue series or program that promotes respect for women and look into developing a leadership coalition to support women. I also want to push for all organizations to address the issue of safety and sexual violence on campus and provide an outlet for their peers.
SG needs to speak! SG must exhaust all its human resources to truly represent the opinions of UK students. We need to get the opinions of the students heard because there are too much potential within a UK student to lose as many as we do to the rising cost of our education.
I do believe it is appropriate for student government to increase voter education in on-campus and general elections. I think we need to be careful not to offend people’s political views when educating about general elections but on-campus elections affect the student mass and are good practices for larger elections that affect our lives. SG must be sure to support and represent all of the student body’s political views equally. Voting is pivotal to this generation and a representation of the student body should not ignore that.
I want to continue the support of the noise ordinance issue and other agendas that are geared toward making every resident that lives in off campus complexes comfortable. Students and landlords need to develop more respect for each other so that we can work together effectively.
Not only do I thoroughly enjoy learning about cultural differences but I have made it my focus in my academic career and hope to make a career out of it. I see the vale and therefore strive to understand at least two sides of every story in order to make bona fide decision. I will make sure the students I represent understand my policy on openness and understanding. To develop a multicultural understanding of anything we must foster dialogue and I look forward to supporting discussions and forums that advocate change and understanding in any corner of the student body.
I want SG to work on making it easier for students and faculty to recycle. I want more incentives for the student’s participation, and more funding and promotions to become a green-friendly university.
I am always willing to voice a student opinion that differs from the higher administrative positions especially if they have lost sight of the bigger picture.UK needs to recognize how fundamental Robinson Forest is in the eastern Kentucky and agriculture community. I am sure we can come to a great compromise that is in the best interest of the Robinson Scholars and for the environment.
