  1. As a student leader, you are aware that there is an emphasis on diversity issues at UK. What are some issues related to diversity that you believe are apparent on campus, and what do you plan to do to create change??
  2. Campus diversity may be increased by ensuring students have an affordable education and by increasing student retention rates.  Rising education costs are threatening to make a university education unattainable for many families. UK should also work with Kentucky’s high schools to improve student preparedness prior to entering college.

  3. What are your plans to help create an end to sexual violence and promote safety on campus?

  4. UK’s campus is already a remarkably safe place. To further increase safety, I would promote UK’s existing automatic alert system.  Currently, only a small minority of the eligible students and staff are enrolled.  I believe one of the most significant threats to student safety, occurs when they leave campus.  Current university regulations prevent eligible students from possessing firearms in their vehicles. This effectively prevents students from carrying their legally possessed firearms to and from campus. I support allowing students possessing firearms in their vehicles.

  5. In light of the recent budget issues in state government, what action should Student Government take to help maintain affordable higher education?

  6. Student government should continue to be a strong advocate for responsible funding of UK’s promised budget in Frankfort. Additionally, student government should look closely at all student fee increases to ensure they are truly justified.

  7. What action, if any, do you believe is appropriate for Student Government to take to increase voter education and participation both in on-campus elections, and general elections?

  8. Student Government’s primary responsibility is to the student population and campus environment.  I would support increased availability of information about the proceedings of student government, perhaps including publishing our meeting agendas in the previous days Kernel or on our website.

Student Government should work to bring prominent national speakers to campus to educate voters on general election issues.

  9. What are your plans with working side by side with landlords and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government on off campus student housing?

  10. I firmly support the right of landlords to use their properties as they see fit, including use as student housing.  Proposed regulations by the LFUCG infringe upon the rights of these landlords.  Current regulations provide means to control unruly and excessive student behavior without need for further regulation.

  11. Leaders often face the struggle of understanding the people they represent. UK has a very diverse student body in terms or race, class, gender identity, culture, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, and ability status. What measures will you take to educate yourself on these issues? In what ways will you commit yourself to better understand and represent this diverse student body?

  12. I’m fortunate in representing a rather small college (Medicine).  This allows me to know many of my fellow students personally.  I keep abreast of other issues in our college through involvement in our college council.  I try to stay well informed on broader issues through consistent reading of several newspapers and internet sources.

  13. What are your thoughts on improving sustainability on campus? Considering current green issues such as recycling, renewable energy, and biking. What plans do you have to make UK a more green-friendly university?

  14. The number of bicycle racks on campus needs increasing. Students often complain of difficulty in finding spots around the medical center. Recycling bins should be placed in prominent locations around campus.

  15. What is your response to the recent research proposal to log sections of UK-owned Robinson Forest? Would you be willing to voice a student opinion different from your own to higher administrative positions at UK?

  16. I oppose logging in the Robinson Forrest for any reason other than education.

  17. Use this space to address any additional ideas, plans, concerns, or platform ideas you have.

  18. No response
