  1. As a student leader, you are aware that there is an emphasis on diversity issues at UK. What are some issues related to diversity that you believe are apparent on campus, and what do you plan to do to create change?

  2. While our school is striving to meet top 20 criteria, diversity plays a key role in the progress and development of that plan, as well as our institution. Clearly UK has a lacking history of diversity but many programs  have recently been implemented and I fully support the positive change that will undoubtedly occur. I would be will to sponsor legislation to assist these programs to catalyze results.

  3. What are your plans to help create an end to sexual violence and promote safety on campus?

  4. Currently the catwalk is a visual aid, but I strongly feel that it should be patrolled more closely by campus police. Also if more students utilized the escort service available at the library, there would be a more positive attitude generated. I would like to better promote this already installed service.

  5. In light of the recent budget issues in state government, what action should Student Government take to help maintain affordable higher education?

  6. As student senators, it is our responsibility to voice student opinions and ensure the best interest of the student is a priority. I am an incumbent senator and attended state rallies as well as met with other students to compose legislation against the university budget cuts throughout my last term. It is time for all students to be more involved and raise interest and knowledge concerning this dire issue, so that we can stand together and not accept higher tuition prices.

  7. What action, if any, do you believe is appropriate for Student Government to take to increase voter education and participation both in on-campus elections, and general elections?

  8. It is an essential characteristic of an active student to be involved with any sort of leadership elections. I feel it is the responsibility of the student to learn of the issues and vote based on the most qualified choice. On campus, we strive to campaign extensively and make it almost impossible for students to be unaware of student government elections. In state and national elections, we encourage groups such as College Republicans and College Democrats to help inform the student body of their candidates and issues.

  9. What are your plans with working side by side with landlords and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government on off campus student housing?

  10. During the past year, there was much controversy surrounding the potential housing ordinances. Many of our student government officials, including President Phelps, attended these meetings and gave a voice to our campus. Currently the issues seems to have been extinguished, but if another ordinance was brought to the table, I would make sure the student voice was heard and that local leaders would not doubt the University's opinion.

  11. Leaders often face the struggle of understanding the people they represent. UK has a very diverse student body in terms or race, class, gender identity, culture, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, and ability status. What measures will you take to educate yourself on these issues? In what ways will you commit yourself to better understand and represent this diverse student body?

  12. I have tried to be involved with many facets of campus, besides student government, in order to truly learn and experience the student body. After participating in such a variety of events, I feel that I  have a better grasp on the realities of this campus. Throughout this next year, if elected, I will visit as many functions as possible that student government funds and supports in order to ensure the money we are allocating is being placed in the correct areas and used to its greatest potential by reaching the most students

  13. What are your thoughts on improving sustainability on campus? Considering current green issues such as recycling, renewable energy, and biking. What plans do you have to make UK a more green-friendly university?

  14. This is a serious issue and it is the responsibility of educated institutions to act immediately. Currently there is no major recycling program established in residence halls or food courts. I would like to establish a recycling attitude and promote this simple act to better the community as a whole.

  15. What is your response to the recent research proposal to log sections of UK-owned Robinson Forest? Would you be willing to voice a student opinion different from your own to higher administrative positions at UK?
