Email a thank-you note to Representative Ed Whitfield of western Kentucky who is an original co-sponsor of the Rural Energy Savings Program Act. This bill was just introduced in the US House and Senate and would be a huge step in the right direction shifting the rural electric co-ops away from expensive new electric generation (like the Smith plant) and toward a clean, money-saving solution.
According to the think tank, The Third Way, "This federal program, run through the Rural Utilities Service, [could] provide low-interest loans to 1.4 million rural households to make energy efficiency improvements, creating 25,000-35,000 jobs each year for the next ten years."
Read this KFTC blog entry for more information on the bill and Whitfield's comments.
