New Power Leader program

It's Time For New Power!

Our New Power Leader program is a new organizing strategy that combines the best of our skills, ideas, history, and lessons learned to deepen our grassroots organizing while we expand the scope, scale, and impact of our work. We’re taking with us into the future all the power, experience and skills we’ve developed over the last 30 years – and increasing them.

I decided to become a New Power Leader because working with KFTC has helped me learn how important individual efforts can be. I've felt very empowered...I want to spread those feelings and ideas. I want to help KFTC build leadership around our wonderful vision for Kentucky because I think we take a holistic approach to improving the lives of Kentuckians.

I want to better our community so that it’s healthy and strong. I’m doing this for my boy, so that he can stay here.

Who are New Power Leaders?

The New Power Leader Program a way for members to take an important leadership role in KFTC.
  • Help form a cluster of five folks and talk with them about KFTC and our work on issues that impact Kentuckians at least four times a year.
  • Be curious about the issues that KFTC works on, so that you can become an informed KFTC leader.
  • Be curious about learning new organizing and leadership skills, at your own pace.
  • Become a sustaining giver by contributing (at any level) on a monthly or quarterly basis, and encourage others to join KFTC and contribute as they can.
  • Channel your best ideas and biggest frustrations – and those of your cluster – back into KFTC, so that KFTC continues to truly learn from and reflect our membership.

As you develop your own way of being a New Power Leader, you'll find good support from other New Power Leaders and staff on npl.kftc.org, a website set up to help New Power Leaders.  There, you'll find "conversation sparks," resources about KFTC's work and upcoming training opportunities, and you'll be able to network with other New Power Leaders.  Your organizer will also check in with you periodically--not too often--to make sure you have what you need.

How do I get involved?

To become a New Power Leader, or to learn more, talk with your local organizer, or send and email to nplinfo[at]kftc.org.
