Over the last four years, KFTC has experienced explosive growth, tripled grassroots fundraising and expanded campaigns around tax and economic justice, mountaintop removal and the restoration of voting rights for former felons. This growth has expanded our reach to people in every part of the state and across the country. A donation to KFTC is an investment in a grassroots organization that believes in the power of people, working together, to challenge injustices, right wrongs, and improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians.

A pledger (or sustaining member) is a donor that invests in the work of KFTC all year long. Instead of a one-time donation, this donor commits to give a contribution each month, 3 months, 6 months or yearly. These contributions can be automatically taken out of your account and can be set up with a voided check or a credit card. Since the Fall of last year we have seen a steady increase in people who are setting up pledges. Billy Ray lives in Glasgow Kentucky said his reasons for setting up a pledge were two-fold, “cash flow and the desire to sustain the mission over the long term.” For most, the pledge option gives members an opportunity to make a larger gift than what they would normally afford to give at one time. A regular donation throughout the year helps to expand our work all year, whether it is February and we're sending members to lobby in Frankfort or it is October and we are educating voters and turning them out to the polls.

What made you decide to be a pledger?

I decided to pledge instead of making a one time donation because KFTC's work is year round and I feel it's necessary for them to have a fund base. I thought giving up a "lunch" once a month could be put to better use for a greater cause. There is none more important than being educated and aware of what is happening in your state. By living in Northern Kentucky I only have access to the Cincinnati media market and receive no news about what's happening in Kentucky, so pledging to KFTC keeps me educated on issues across the state.

I received a copy of KFTC's, non-partisan, newsletter which is very important to me as an registered Independent voter. I need information about both sides of issues to be a more active, involved citizen. I can be an activist rallying in Frankfort or from my own couch calling congress on essential legislation. I feel more informed and enfranchised.

The best part of pledging is that it is easy, simple and uncomplicated. There are no checks to write and your money is going monthly to an influential organization. I feel it's my personal obligation to be involved and part of the solution. It's my duty. I don't miss the money because I know that it's an automated withdrawal. Pledging is easier than giving a large one-time yearly contribution.

I like the idea that I am an involved, knowledgeable Kentuckian that is part of something bigger than local politics. Plus, I am feel united with like-minded people and concerns state-wide.
