The General Assembly
Every time I come [to Frankfort] I feel more at ease and less cynical. I realize that [legislators] are real people and they’re willing to listen. Coming here is an effective way, probably the most effective way. Our leaders can’t represent us if they don’t hear from us.

Want to lobby with us?
During the legislative session, we have staff and members at the Capitol most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
We typically meet in the Capitol Annex cafeteria between 9 and 10 a.m. to discuss our day, so you can meet up with us there.
If you plan on coming up, please contact Lisa Abbott, our Lobbying Coordinator.
Knowing the importance of citizens’ voices in making our democracy strong, KFTC members take an active role in the legislative process — both in the state capitol of Frankfort and in our home communities. In the 2009 Kentucky General Assembly our citizen lobbying efforts included working for the passage of legislation to make our tax system more fair, protect our streams and mountains by stopping mountaintop removal, restore voting rights to former felons, make Kentucky's economic development spending more accountable, and move Kentucky toward a clean energy future.
Below are some of the issues we will be working on in the 2010 General Assembly:
- The Stream Saver Bill, to prevent the dumping of toxic mining wastes into streams
- Restoration of Voting Rights for Former Felons who have served their debt to society
- Fair and Sensible Revenue Reform
- Energy legislation that creates jobs, protects those economically vulnerable, and moves Kentucky toward a sustainable energy future.
Track the status of these and other bills KFTC has a position on.
