 "Kentuckians For The Commonwealth
is a community of people taking action for justice."

People taking action is one of the core principles and values of KFTC.  Action is what makes all of our success possible.  The change we seek will only occur if large numbers of people participate.

Citizens taking action – participating – is also what makes our democracy successful.  Right now, our democracy is not as healthy as it needs to be.  But when a few people get involved, their efforts get noticed by decision-makers at the local and state level.  The impact is multiplied because they know that every letter or phone call they get represents the concerns of dozens of other voters.

Taking action also impacts us as individuals and as a community.  It is very empowering to take action and see the effect that it has.  When we take action together, we are listened to and respected and it transforms us from being a passive onlooker to being a full participant in our society and our democracy.

In this section of our website, you will find examples and stories of people taking action to end mountaintop removal and build a better future beyond coal.  You can read about the remarkable work of the Kentucky authors, about students getting involved, and about citizens from all over Kentucky attending mountain witness tours in the coalfields to learn how they can help address problems related to coal mining.
