Kentuckians For The Commonwealth is like a large family, full of people that care about and respect each other and care about Kentucky. But we’re also a passionate and persistent organization of people taking action for justice.  KFTC is truly a membership driven organization and our priorities are the issues that our members are facing in their home communities.

Each year, we get a little stronger and a little more respect.  Our opponents and the politicians have learned that we are not going away.  We know how the political process is supposed to work down in Frankfort – and the way it really works.

A few years ago, we created a statement that describes our long-term vision.  Then, each year,  we sit down as a group and decide on our work for the year, keeping the vision in mind.

Our program of work is ambitious and broad. We are committed to diversity in all our work because we believe in the value of diversity and because we know that working together across divisions will allow us to achieve our many goals.

We focus on leadership development because we believe that all people have leadership potential, and that when they are educated and learn new skills, it builds their personal power and the power of the organization.  We are successful at the issues we work on because we always concentrate on building our base of members, involving new people and organizing new communities

We work on multiple issues because we know that all social justice issues are connected to each other, and because our priorities come up from our base of members.  What people are facing and organizing around in their local communities, whether that is in the center of Louisville or a holler in eastern Kentucky, is what we work on at the state level as well.Daymon Morgan in Woods

The Canary Project, our organizing project around coalfield issues, is exposing the Big Lie that coal is a cheap form of energy and that King Coal has been a benefit to coalfield communities.  We are banding together across the state to make changes in the coalfields and build a better future – beyond coal.

We work for tax justice because we have believe that Kentucky needs a tax system that is fair to everyone, and that raises the money Kentucky needs to move forward.

We are creating a debate about how to practice sustainable economic development that brings good jobs to our communities while protecting the people and environment.

We are working for the restoration of voting rights to former felons because we believe in democracy. Everyone deserves a second chance and voting is a fundamental right that should be returned to someone after they complete their punishment.

This year, we are increasing our work for voter participation.  We know that too few people in our communities are voting.  If more people vote, the political leaders will pay more attention to what they want, instead of to the interests of the wealthy.

KFTC is stirring things up. This is an organization that lets you have your voice and helps you learn how to make an impact. We know that we are powerful when we stay together.  It is reassuring to discover that there are a whole lot of people in Kentucky who care.

A lot of people are fed up with the way things are going in Frankfort and in Washington and in the corporate boardrooms. People want to be part of an organization that gets things done and makes a difference.  More and more people see that KFTC is that kind of organization. We believe in what we are doing.  And, we won’t give up.
