The 32nd Annual Governor's Conference on the Environment will be held Oct. 6-7, 2008, at the Lexington Convention Center. This year’s theme is “Go for the Green” in which businesses, industries, community leaders and all citizens of the Commonwealth can discuss ways to protect Kentucky’s land, air and water.
The 32nd Annual Governor's Conference on the Environment will be held Oct. 6-7, 2008, at the Lexington Convention Center. This year’s theme is “Go for the Green” in which businesses, industries, community leaders and all citizens of the Commonwealth can discuss ways to protect Kentucky’s land, air and water. Preconference workshops focusing on a variety of topics will be held in the afternoon of Oct. 6, and the conference will kick off with the Secretary's Reception and awards dinner that evening.
The Department for Environmental Protection's goals for this year's conference is for industries, communities, public servants and individuals to gather and share information that will benefit Kentucky's environmental future.
The three areas of focus will be: 1) ensuring a green environment; 2) implementing green practices; and 3) building green communities.
Pre-conference Workshops
These workshops are free and are not part of the registration process. The preconference workshops are being sponsored by various organizations and groups, and may introduce a topic not in line with this year’s theme. Below is a list of the preconference workshops. A description of each workshop can be found on the agenda below. If you plan to attend a preconference workshop but not attend the conference, contact Natalie Jensen at 502-564-2150, ext. 111.
Environmental Educators - "Utilizing the Outdoor Classroom"
Low Impact Development Practices - "Rethinking our Cities and Restoring our Streams"
Environmental Quality Commission - "Environmental Summit for Mayors"
Kentucky League of Cities and New Cities Institute - "Going Green through Education and Civic Engagement"

If you prefer to mail your registration and payment, print the online registration form above and send your form and payment to 300 Fair Oaks Ln., Frankfort, KY 40601. Checks should be made payable to the Governor's Conference on the Environment and mailed to the attention of Natalie Jensen.
The registration fee for this year's conference is:
Oct. 6 (reception and dinner only) $50 - Pre-conference Workshops are free
Oct. 7 $100
Oct. 6-7 $150
If you choose to register at the conference, an additional $25 fee will be added to the registration cost.
A block of rooms has been set aside for attendees. You will need to contact theHyatt at 859-253-1234 to make reservations. When contacting the Hyatt, ask for the Governor's Conference on the Environment room rate which is $119 per night.

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available to students, teachers and nonprofits to be used to pay for registration. Print out the 2008 scholarship application and fax it to Natalie Jensen at 502-564-4245 or mail the application to 300 Fair Oaks Ln., Frankfort, KY 40601. The scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
