Mountain Witness Tours sponsored by Kentuckians For The Commonwealth (KFTC) are a chance for people who live in the coal producing counties of eastern Kentucky to come together across county and community lines to assess the “true cost of coal”. These tours are also a chance for people who do not live in the coalfields to visit communities, listen to people’s stories and be witness to the abuses of an outlaw coal industry.
Come and witness the impact of Mountain Top Removal mining and Valley Fills on local communities. Experience the daily realities of sharing a county road with high volumes of overloaded coal truck and heavy equipment traffic as residents of Island Creek tell their story.
Local KFTC members invite you to their homeplace in Pike County Join us in our efforts by learning and educating yourself on the stream saver bill and the clean water act as you tour Island Creek.
Local residents need your help in lobbying for these important bills and putting pressure on local, state and national officials to enforce the laws.
For car-pooling, driving directions, and general plans for the day please contact Patty Tarquino at ptarquino@earthlink.net or call 606-632-0051.
