I Love Mountains Day logistics and information

Here is some information you can use if you plan on attending I Love Mountains Day on Wednesday.

Webinar: We will be hosting a webinar this evening at 7 p.m. EST to get people prepared for the rally. We'll examine a range of issues, including the Stream Saver Bill and Clean Energy Opportunity Act, and ways you can be most effective when talking with lawmakers. We'll discuss where these issues currently stand in the Kentucky General Assembly, and explore ways to build support for protecting Kentucky's land, air and water. You'll also learn detailed information about the march and rally.

You can join the discussion by phone, and you can also follow-along with a slide presentation if you like.

  • To view the slide show, go to www.readytalk.com. Then enter access code: 8931147.
  • To join the phone call, dial 866-740-1260 and then enter access Code: 8931147#.

Schedule of the day:

  • 9 a.m. to Noon - Members and groups meet with lawmakers. If you plan on coming to lobby with us before the rally, please try to schedule meetings with your legislators beforehand. Our lobby teams will be gathering in the capitol rotunda.

  • Noon - Gather at the Kentucky River

  • 12:30 p.m. - March from the river to the capitol steps

  • 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. - Rally on the capitol steps

Morning Lobbying:  Also, some of you may be planning to come early to lobby your lawmakers. If you are, we are so thrilled that you are taking the extra time to do so. Please note that this year we will have information tables set up in the Capitol Rotunda starting at 9 am to support your lobbying efforts. Stop by there first to pick up fact sheets and other lobbying materials. We highly encourage you to make appointments with your legislators ahead of time.  Call your legislator's annex office number to make your appointment.

Action: Cast a vote for Kentucky's bright future! For our action this year, we are encouraging folks to cast ballots for Kentucky's Bright Future. Share with us what key ideas, policies or values you want to be able to vote FOR in upcoming elections by bringing a handmade sign as your "ballot". Please write or draw your ideas on paper no larger than 5.5 x 8.5 inches (half a sheet of paper) and bring those with you. Be creative and colorful! You may also cast your vote online here.

Weather/Attire: The weather report is calling for sunshine and temperatures in the mid-30s. There is always the chance of snow, however. We do not plan on canceling unless the weather become dangerous. We will keep an eye on the weather forecasts tomorrow, and let you know of any developments. Please dress warmly, and wear something red if you are able.

Directions/Parking: Please drop off all the passengers in your vehicle below the bridge that connects Capitol Avenue to Route 60 in Frankfort. This is the starting point of our march. From there, vehicle drivers should drive up Capitol Avenue and park as near as possible to the Capitol. One good option is to park in the large cement-parking garage located below ground to the left side of the Capitol Building. There is also plenty of street parking available. KFTC will provide shuttles that will circle the .6 mile loop from the Capitol to the march site between 11:30 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. These shuttles will make a stop outside the elevators on the top level (level 1) of Capitol parking garage.  There will be signs posted in their window identifying them as shuttles.  The City of Frankfort will also be running a free trolley along the same route and you can flag it down anywhere along the route. You can find directions and a map of the day here.

Lunch: Please plan to eat lunch before arriving at noon at the start of the march. There is a cafeteria in the basement of the Capitol Annex that is open to the public. The cafeteria accepts cash and credit cards.

Twitter:  If you plan on tweeting at the rally, please use the hashtag #lovemtns. This will help people follow the event from home.

Visit www.kftc.org/love for more details. See you there!
