Governor Beshear Signs Onto Letter Supporting Wind Development

by Nancy Reinhart last modified August-30-2011 09:25 PM

Last week, a coalition of 24 governors from both major parties and each region of the country, including Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, asked the Obama administration to take a series of steps to encourage and facilitate the development of wind energy.

Among other things, the letter calls for an extension of tax credits for the wind industry, currently slated to expire next year, and the establishment of an inter-state task force on wind development.

KFTC has long pressured the Beshear administration and Kentucky legislators to increase the seriousness with which the state approaches the development of all renewable resources, including wind.

Read the full text of the 24 Governors' letter here.

The letter concluded, “We believe these actions will help address some of the national economic and energy challenges before our nation. We look forward to working with you and your Administration to further our nation’s wind energy development to help drive economic growth, energy development, and the creation of high-paying jobs.”

Old wind data on KYSEA site

Posted by Steve Wilkins at September-03-2011 05:07 PM
You may want to remove the link to KYSEA wind info. They link to old 50m data, not the more recent (2010) 80m data. They also link to an Inter-County Cooperative presentation that uses even older data to argue that Ky. has no wind generation potential. The same presentation tries to make the case that PV solar electric is also cost-prohibitive. The cost of PV panels - used to bolster their argument - are almost twice the current cost of panels. I've notified KYSEA.
