Update on Voter Empowerment Work in Central Kentucky
Last night, Central Kentucky members met to form a voter empowerment taskforce. We had a great conversation about why voter empowerment is important work and made some concrete plans for the coming months. Our goal before the 2010 General Election is to make contact with 2010 new people!
This morning, members set up a table at the LexTran Transit Center. Lots of early morning folks talked with us about registering to vote and restoration of voting rights for former felons. In the end, members registered about 20 voters, but we talked to many more that could not vote because of mistakes in their past. We met one inspiring man who has helped many of his friends get their right to vote back. Member Jan Ewing talked more than 20 former felons through the process of restoring their civil rights and educated them about the campaign to restore voting rights. Senator Damon Thayer can expect postcards from unhappy folks!
As of today, we’ve talked to 33 people towards our goal of 2010!
