75th District Forum Tonight

by Dave Newton last modified August-06-2008 11:34 PM

For those of you who live in the 75th House District in Lexington:

As many of you know, Representative Kathy Stein is now running for Ernesto Scorsone's old Senate seat, which leaves a vacancy in a legislative district with a high concentration of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth members.

As part of our Voter Empowerment campaign, we want our members and our issues to be part of the discussion and the process as both parties pick who their candidates for this new vacancy are.

Later today (Wednesday) the Democratic party will hold a candidate forum for people to learn about the contenders for this seat.

Each potential candidate will deliver a brief address and answer questions from precinct committee members.

We want to make sure we have lots of members there to make an impact and serve as a visible presence.

Remember - KFTC does not have stances on candidates or political parties, but we do have stances on issues and policy - something that we want to share with all candidates.

If there are any public input forums like this to help select the Republican candidate, we'll let you know.  If you hear of any please pass the information along to us.

For more news on these transitions, see this Herald-Leader article online .

KFTC members were very well represented in the room of more than 100 people who asked questions and learned about the 5 potential democratic candidates for 75th District.

The winner and now candidate for the election on November 4th is Kelly Flood.

Fun

There were soo many KFTC folks in the room.

On a personal note, I'm glad Kelly Flood won - I think I'll be as proud of her as I am of Kathy Stein.

The more people who get involved, the better represented we all are.

Kelly Flood... what to look for

Posted by Joe G. at August-08-2008 10:22 PM
I had the pleasure to meet with Reverend Flood, as well as most of the other candidates, before the actual event. I believe she will be true to her words there. Her passion for fairness was obvious, but I want to hear more about are her budget priorities... will she be willing to help lead the drive for more progressive taxation policies in this state? I hope so...

Hopefully the 75th elected a true progressive that will be able to fill Stein's shoes.
