The Central KY Council for Peace and Justice held their annual Peace Fair and Dinner last night, which as always, was an enlightening space to make connections between community activist organizations and individuals across boundaries.

KFTC members attended in force, staffing a table to raise awareness of our issues and work in Central Kentucky, but more importantly, circulating and meeting new people and organizations.

“Stopping Hate” was the theme of the program.  Keynote speaker William Wharton, Executive Director of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission spoke and offered ways that we can collectively challenge institutionalized hatred in our community. In addition,  Jenisha Watts, a University of Kentucky senior journalism major and Lexington native spoke about her own experiences as an African American in Lexington. And finally, Lexington SCAPA (School for the Creative and Performing Arts) high school students, Abigail Grise and Chungyen Chang, provided us with a window into the world of schools and bullying through performance art.
