I Love Mountains Day starts with a bang

"It is just so fun to see us plugging up the halls of the Capitol."
-Beth Rosdatter

It is hard to judge the exact numbers, but certainly hundreds of KFTC members and allies are already here in the Capitol Annex flooding the hallways in a sea of red.  In fact, the groups from Louisville, Lexington, and Madison County are so large that we decided to reserve large rooms just to accommodate each group in an attempt to bring the legislators from each area to us, instead of flooding their offices with hundreds of individual meetings.

Despite this, the reception area from the House offices on the 3rd and 4th floors of the annex are completely filled up with KFTC members from other parts of the state, all of whom are concerned about mountaintop removal mining.  Also of note, the House Natural Resources committee (where the Stream Saver bill is being held up) scheduled for this morning was canceled.  I don't know if we can claim responsibility for that, but it is an interesting fact.

Here are some photos from earlier this morning.  Check back on the blog later today for more updates!

I Love Mountains Day

What a day. Such positive energy we the people know what is important to us and it is our water. People gathered today from all walks of life from communities across the state. We want action and we want it now. Our water our future can not wait.
They can not take away our greatest resource, water all the while saying it will cost more money to mine it the right way. Calling coal a cheap source of energy. Our water has no price. enough is enough. Clean up your messes now.
So today Our voices rang thru the hall ways Our Mountains Our Streams our future our Government we must hold them to this and we can not do that by going away . We must keep up the work Ask someone you know to make a call, write a letter.
Thank you everyone for making this such a great event. Kentuckians For The Commonwealth has the greatest staff and members
and Friends that one could have.

My wife and I try to visit Pine Mountain Settlement School at least once each year and have both grown to feel at home while there, even though we're both from the "big" city of Louisville.

I decided to take the day off to attend the Valentine Day rally at the Capital steps. I saw a couple of friends, took a few photos and enjoyed myself thoroughly until cold feet and low blood sugar got the best of me. I had to leave after Mr Berry's inspiring speech.
What a wonderful day for Kentucky and the mouintains.

I've never been more proud to be a Kentuckian!

I want to say a big THANKS to KFTC members that showed up in Frankfort from Louisville, Lexington, Madison Co. in large numbers. I appreciate you standing up for the mountains. The people in the mountains are outnumbered in influence by those on the payrolls of big coal. We can't save our environment alone. Keep helping us and gether you friends. We are with you.

Wendell Berry's Speech

Hello.
I was especially inspired by Wendell Berry's speech.
I would like to request that the text of his statement be made available (if not on the KFTC website, somewhere). Can someone follow-up on this?
Thanks
