Clean Energy Opportunity Act hearing tomorrow morning in Frankfort

clean energy lobby day 2

As the 2014 Kentucky General Assembly enters its final weeks, the pace of legislative action picks up noticeably. Today was a busy day in Frankfort, as thousands of Kentuckians took part in rallies and hearings focused on voting rights, fairness, and other human rights issues. Tomorrow KFTC members will return for a hearing in the House Tourism Development and Energy Committee on
the Clean Energy Opportunity Act!

Please join us if you can in Room 131 of the Capitol Annex at 10 a.m. on Thursday to show support for HB 195, sponsored by Rep. Mary Lou Marzian.

Even if you can’t make the trip, please take a few moments to call the legislative message line: 1-800-372-7181. Ask your representative and all members of the House Tourism and Energy Committee to “support HB 195 and create good clean energy jobs across Kentucky.”

HB 195 asks electric utilities in Kentucky to ramp up energy efficiency programs to help their customers save money by saving energy. And it asks them to generate an increasing share of their electricity from renewable sources over the next ten years. The renewable and efficiency standards contained in this bill are modeled after policies that are working well in 30 states, including Ohio and North Carolina.

Studies show that passage of this bill would generate 28,000 net new jobs over a decade and reduce average bills by 8-10% compared to the business-as-usual scenario.
